A friend and I visited this hotel during a motorcycle tour of France. We arrived as two very wet and thoroughly exhausted riders, unfortunately
dripping accumulated rainwater all over the reception floor. However, after such a long and hard day, we could not have received a warmer or more heartening welcome than the one we were given the moment we walked through the door.
The first thing I must say about this hotel is that the staff are absolutely fabulous. From the maître d’hôtel to the waiting staff and the chef, everyone was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and clearly proud of creating a memorable experience for their guests. We checked in and were promptly offered a dinner reservation, which we gladly accepted before heading upstairs to dry off and shower.
This happened to be Easter Sunday, so we weren’t quite sure what to expect, but the menu turned out to be the stuff of dreams. A delicious truffle-based amuse-bouche arrived first, teasing the palate beautifully. The foie gras followed and was a truly sublime culinary experience, locally sourced and, I believe, made in-house. I would have been content with just that, but the veal with sweetbreads that followed was an absolute triumph, a stunning infusion of flavour that danced on the tastebuds.
Next came the cheese course, featuring several varieties we hadn’t sampled before, adding another layer of delight to an already exceptional meal. Finally, for dessert, I was treated to the exquisite and entirely new-to-me Île flottante, an unforgettable treat that I now feel compelled to learn to make myself.
The wine list was both extensive and thoughtful, with a wonderful range of semi-regional and more distant selections, all very reasonably priced. We sampled two bottles, both absolutely delicious. We finished our meal with a glass of Ratafia de Champagne while the chef visited each table to ensure everyone had enjoyed their meal, which was a lovely personal touch.
After dinner, we headed to the bar where we chatted at length with the staff, who kindly offered recommendations for our next stop on the tour. We enjoyed a fine Armagnac and some great conversation with both the maître d’hôtel and the chef before retiring to our rooms for the night.
I cannot recommend this hotel enough and am already looking forward to my next stay. A small tip for motorcyclists: the car park is down a long, corkscrew concrete ramp. The maître d’hôtel kindly offered to open the garage for our bikes, but having already navigated the ramp in the rain, we did not much fancy turning around and going back up again that evening!

We stopped for an evening meal here what a joy! Wonderful service from the son and his delightful mother. The chef turned out fabulous locally
produced food finished by the best plate of cheese I have had in a long time, and a lovely Corrèze wine to accompany. Thoroughly recommend 👌 10 sur 10!

We ate in the restaurant Chi Chi Pompon for the second time, first time in the evening, and again had a very enjoyable experience. The food on both
occasions was delicious and the service was excellent. Friendly and attentive, but not so you felt uncomfortable. There were English speaking staff to assist you if necessary. Book in high season if you would like to sit on the veranda overlooking the hotel gardens and the river, which was very pleasant indeed.
